Most common cause for clinic visits, mainly in lumbar area, with muscle spasm making up the majority of pathology but other causes include but not limited to disc bugling/herniation, spondylolisthesis, arthritis, Osteoporosis, Scoliosis, tumors, vertebral cord fracture. Diagnosis is made through physical examination, history taking, x-rays, EMG, and MRI’s. Risk factors include but not limited to heavy lifting, trauma, obesity and aging. Treatment options include but not limited to conservative therapy like physical therapy, anti-inflammatory medications, pain killers. Other therapies include non-operative procedure like epidural injections, nerve blocks. Surgery is reserved when either conservative therapy is exhausted or when there is an emergency.
